WHAT THE SOCIETY IS ALL ABOUT
...

The Henri Nouwen Society has been established as a forum for Henri's readers
and friends in Southern Africa and it has set for itself the following aims:
 | To disseminate information concerning Nouwen's writings and thought.
 | To form a network of people in Southern Africa who are interested in and have been
influenced by the spirituality and writings of Henri Nouwen.
 | To produce a regular newsletter (three or four times a year) celebrating Nouwen's
spirituality and reflecting on his work.
 | To organise an annual workshop or retreat as soon as possible to study and discuss
Nouwen's spirituality.
 | To support those who read and study the writings of Henri Nouwen.
 | To keep contact with Nouwen's friends and readers in other parts of the world.
(See our links to the Literary centre (Canada) and the Stichting (the Netherlands).
 | To encourage scholarly enquiry into aspects of Nouwen's life and work.
Whilst recognising that these are ambitious aims, we will try to accomplished
these by:
 | Making contact with the Henri Nouwen Literary Centre (Canada), the Henri Nouwen Society
(New York) and the Henri Nouwen Stichting (Rotterdam) and creating formal links with them.
 | Setting up a core group of people who are intersted in Henri Nouwen.
 | Setting up a web page and an email address for the society.
 | Advertising the society and creating a membership database.
 | Setting up a desktop publishing software package which will enable the production of a
quarterly newsletter for the society.
 | Producing the first newsletter for May 1999 as an introductory and promotional copy.
 | Writing articles on Nouwen, Book reviews on his work (beginning with his earliest
books), passing on news from abroad, and introducing latest books on his work.
